Umpire Information

Would you like to umpire in 2024?

Turning 13 or older this season and wanting to earn some extra cash, learn more about the game and have fun?

Become an umpire!

In 2024, the Sydney Juniors Umpiring Department is aiming to grow our umpire numbers to over 700 umpires to better support all AFL Sydney Juniors Competitions. To do this we need your help to recruit players, teammates, siblings and parents.

Umpiring is perfect for boys and girls with no experience required.

You can start umpiring when you are 13.

AFL is growing at a rapid pace across Sydney, meaning there are more games each week for people to umpire, making it a fantastic time to take up umpiring.

With the successful launch of AFL Women’s and the GWS Women’s team, we want to encourage more females to pick up the whistle or flags. If you have ever thought about giving umpiring a go, now is the time to do it!

You can play and umpire on the same day. We will work around your game so there are no time clashes.

Umpiring is a great way to be part of AFL, not only will you learn and understand the rules, you will gain a further knowledge of our great game, get fit, make new friends, learn important life skills, have lots of fun and get paid to have the best seat in the house!
