The Forest Lions provide AFL programs for Auskick through to 17 years. We are always welcoming new players from 4 to 17 years old.
We are excited to let all girls know that they can now be registering to play AFL with the Club in 2018.
AFL is a great sport offering a unique mix of athleticism and ball skills along with the social and team work aspects that make it so much fun. Girls of all skill levels can get involved with coaching staff able to accommodate a range of skills and abilities.
In 2014 and 2012 we were nominated and won the prestigious GSJAFL Club of the year award. This award is scored by visiting clubs and umpires and is awarded for good player/officials & spectator conduct, good facilities, good professionalism and general good sportsmanship.
Worried about tackling? NSW has modified rules meaning limited contact. Tackling is not introduced in the game until the U11’s. There is no divisionalisation or grading until the U11's. There is a code of conduct that applies to parents and players and the association is especially keen to ensure that everybody’s behavior is moderate and consistent with decent standards. The club strongly enforces these rules and expects high standards of conduct from all players representing the Forest Lions.
The focus is on fitness and skills development in a fun environment. This modified game of AFL suits both girls and boys and ensures everyone gets involved and contributes to the team.
Forest Lions is the oldest AFL club on the northern beaches with a proud history of success, our most recent celebration was our U15's Premiership win in 2017; and this success comes from early skills training. As such all coaches are trained and accredited. We apply a games based training style rather than rigorous drills and physical endurance tests as this type of training improves sharpness of mind and body agility. Kids are rewarded for trying and not just success.
Our Auskicks, boys and girls ages 4 to 8 have a great time getting fit and learning new skills but are having too much fun to realise it. It is non-competitive with the focus on skills, fun and fitness.
Our teams have a great mix of kids and a welcoming fair minded spirit. Each year the teams play on a larger oval with less modified rules so extra numbers in older age team are always welcomed, and we assure you that everyone still gets a fair amount of time on the oval, no bench warming allowed.
For more information contact our club president at email@example.com.
You are always welcome to come along and try out for a while before you register.
The Forest Junior AFL Club (Forest Lions) was formed in 1969 originally as the Forest Districts Australian Football Club Inc.
We are members of the strong Sydney Northside Junior AFL Competition and play against teams primarily from the North Shore and North West regions of Sydney.
Forest has been a very successful club over the years:
In 2001 and 2002, Forest was awarded Northside Champion Club in recognition of the success rate of our teams in winning premierships in the Northside competition. This reflects our commitment to developing teams and individuals.
In 2003, Forest was awarded Northshore Most Sportsmanlike Club award, reflecting our commitment to sportsmanship.
In addition to winning teams we have also had the fortune of hosting some excellent players over the years. In the last couple of years we have provided players to a number of associations, local and regional representative teams. We have also produced players that have gone on to the NSW Under 16 team in 2003, 2004.
